strawberry ricotta tartlets with maple crust

Hey! What's your favorite color? Tell me in the comments. It makes me so happy when people comment. It lets me know that at least some of the views I'm getting are from real, live people and not robots.

apple and cheddar cornmeal waffles

When I was young, cornmeal porridge was a regular member in our breakfast congee rotation, and I always looked forward to eating it with my fried eggs. It wasn't until my trip to Italy, though, that I fell in love. I still remember the initial encounter: the waiter set a plate in front of my dad piled high with fish and curious golden discs (fried polenta, as my internet research later revealed). I left the fish alone–I've never been a seafood lover–but before my dad could take a bite, I inhaled every last granule of the polenta. Its crunchy, savory crusts and creamy insides were a world away from the bland breakfast porridge of days past, and I was utterly smitten. I had learned an essential lesson that day: when cornmeal meets a hot pan, beautiful things happen.

we made it! #2

Congratulations! You made it another two weeks. Don't spend a second of your precious weekend reading this post; go out and celebrate at the beach or something. Or go bowling! When was the last time you did that?

Oh, you're still here...

Fine. Try to enjoy the rest of this post while your muscles slowly atrophy from lack of use.

strawberry iced cookies

March. I'm not quite sure how to feel about you. For one, you officially win the award for Month With the Most Actual School. Also, you are chock full of internship application deadlines and that is no fun.

we made it! #1

HEY! Guess what? I was making one of my usual pilgrimages to Trader Joe's with my buddies this afternoon, and it was sunny and beautiful and we were having that joyful kind of conversation about all the things that aren't important and laughing at everything and just soaking in the Friday glory. It was a lovely moment, and as I floated in it I thought about how much I wanted to share it with you.

maple and orange zest granola

I just watched Amelie for the third time. Such a beautiful film–if only life was a bit more like it... oh, to live in a whimsical world of over-saturated colors and dusty treasure boxes and funny old painters with glass bones who tell you to take more risks. How else will I get my Nino Quincampoix in the end if I have no funny old painter to convince me??

toasted brown butter rice krispie treats

FINALS WEEEEEEEK! (insert screaming and bone crunching noises)
I hope you'll forgive me for making this short; I have to go study :(
Two more days until the glory of second semester senior year!

These guys are perfect finals week fare. They take all of 15 minutes, 4 ingredients and one large pan to make. They travel beautifully for stress-induced snacking on the go, so they are prime candidates for between-test energizing.

fresh cranberry, ginger and vanilla bean scones

Happy new year, friends! Also, happy end of college-app-season to me!! So yes, sorry for the lack of posts, but I was crazy busy writing essay after essay over the holidays. Though applications did get very tedious and sometimes made me want to cry and eat buttery foods, I've definitely come out of them with a greater understanding of myself and my future. Writing a whole portfolio of essays essentially all on different angles of you really forces you to get creative with how you look at yourself. Again, though, I cannot stress enough how happy I am to be DONE!
